Edward Hyams rejoins the VivoPower family on our Advisory Council

Eddie-Hyams

Our Advisory Council is growing yet again, as we welcome Edward Hyams – a former non-executive director of our board – as the third member.

‘I am very happy to welcome Eddie back to the VivoPower family,’ our executive Chairman and CEO Kevin Chin said of Hyams, who served on the VivoPower board from 2016-18.

Most recently Hyams was a non-executive chairman of Tevva Motors, an electric vehicle (EV) truck business based in the UK with expertise in battery management solutions. He was one of Tevva’s 2 original angel investors.

‘I am passionate about using my experience in clean tech, electric vehicles and energy to support the VivoPower team in their exciting pivot to sustainable energy solutions,’ said Hyams, who in 2002 won the Sage UK Best Business Leader award for his leadership in an innovative energy e-business.

His expertise will complement current Advisory Council members Eric Achtmann and Kim Lawrence.

Indeed, the London-based chartered engineer has over 45 years’ professional experience in power engineering, renewables and energy efficiency.

Throughout his career, Hyams has served in multiple executive and board positions. Among other things, this includes his roles at:

  • UK Energy Saving Trust (non-executive director and non-executive chairman, early 1990s and 2005)
  • Southern Electric PLC (director of engineering, 1992–96)
  • BizzEnergy (CEO, 2001–03)
  • Englefield Capital (partner, 2004–12)
  • UK Carbon Trust (non-executive director, 2005).

At Englefield, Hyams co-led the Renewable Energy Fund, which invested in solar, wind and biomass developments across Europe. He joined Englefield after the fund backed his management team on the first structured financing of a renewable asset portfolio in the UK.

Aside from his chartered engineer qualification, Hyams has a degree in electrical engineering from Imperial College, London and a diploma in accounting and finance from the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants. He has further completed executive programs at Harvard Business School (finance) and Stanford (strategy and organisation).
